Why Coastal Buildings Need Them

A Failed Door is a Failed Building.

When hurricane winds breach a building envelope through a failed garage door, internal pressure spikes lift the roof. Code-rated wind-load doors keep the envelope sealed. Required across coastal counties in GA and FL. We install rated assemblies with engineered documentation.

  • Wind-load tested doors (Miami-Dade, ASCE 7, FBC)
  • Engineered drawings for permitting
  • Steel and aluminum wind-load options
  • Reinforced track and bracing systems
  • Impact-rated glass and panel options
  • Pre-construction consultation
  • Plan-set review with general contractors
  • Certificate of Compliance provided

Common Questions

Before You Call.

What wind speed do my doors need to handle?

Coastal Georgia counties typically require ASCE 7 wind speeds of 130 to 150 mph depending on flood zone. Florida coastal counties run 140 to 180 mph. Your building plans or AHJ will specify.

Do I need impact-rated glass?

If your building is in a wind-borne debris region (typically within 1 mile of the coast and 110 mph zones), yes. Otherwise debris shutters are an alternative.

Can you retrofit an existing door?

Sometimes. Some existing doors can be reinforced to meet wind-load requirements with track bracing and post systems. Others need full replacement. Site assessment determines which.

How long for permitting?

Coastal Georgia counties typically take 2 to 4 weeks for commercial wind-load door permits. We provide everything the permit office needs upfront.

Are wind-load doors more expensive?

Yes, typically 30 to 60 percent more than standard commercial doors. Higher gauge steel, reinforced track, engineered brackets. But required by code and supported by insurance discounts.

Where Wind-Load Doors Go to Work.

Florida code is the strictest in the country. Coastal Georgia code is catching up fast. Hurricane-rated doors protect the buildings that cannot afford to be breached when the storm hits.

Ports & Logistics

Wind-load and impact-rated dock doors at the Port of Brunswick (Mayor's Point and Colonel's Island terminals), JAXPORT Blount Island and Talleyrand container terminals, and the I-95 logistics corridor warehouses from St. Marys to Jacksonville. Built to NOA and FBC approvals.

Coastal Resorts & Hotels

Storm-rated service doors at The Cloister at Sea Island, Jekyll Island Club Resort, Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island, and Jacksonville Beach hotels. Insurance carriers require impact certification on every opening. We supply doors with the NOA and the documentation.

Beachfront Commercial

Storefronts and back-of-house at Tybee Island, Jekyll Island, St. Simons Village, Fernandina Beach, Atlantic Beach, and Jacksonville Beach. Nassau and Duval counties sit inside Florida's HVHZ-adjacent impact code. Every door gets the right rating.

Manufacturing & Warehouses

Coastal warehouses, distribution centers, and manufacturing facilities along the I-95 corridor. Wind-load garage doors keep insurance valid, business open, and product dry through the season. We quote, supply, install, and certify.
