"Spring snapped at 7am. Tech in my driveway by 10. Door working better than when it was new."
Margaret R., St. SimonsBroken Spring Repair
Heard a loud bang and your door will not open? Snapped spring. Most calls get a same-day swap. Quality cycles, not bargain-bin hardware.
Springs Have a Cycle Count.
Every garage door spring is rated for a number of open-close cycles. Standard springs are 10,000 cycles, about 7 to 10 years. Long-life springs are 20,000 to 30,000 cycles. When you hear a loud bang and the door will not lift, the spring snapped. The opener cannot lift the door without the spring counterbalance. Call us. Most jobs get same-day service.
- Torsion spring replacement (most common type)
- Extension spring replacement
- Both springs swapped together (recommended)
- Quality 20,000-cycle springs available

- One-year workmanship warranty
Cheap Springs Cost More.
Quality Cycles
We install springs rated for 20,000 cycles minimum. Bargain springs at 5,000 cycles cost half but last a third as long.
Both Springs at Once
Springs wear together. If one snapped, the other is close. We always recommend replacing both at the same visit.
Safety First
Wound torsion springs hold massive tension. Wrong release technique causes serious injury. We send IDEA-certified techs.
Before You Call.
How much does spring replacement cost?
Single torsion spring replacement: 250 to 350 dollars. Pair (recommended): 350 to 500. Extension springs: 200 to 350 for the pair. Heavy-duty long-life springs: 50 to 100 more for the upgrade.
Can I open the door manually with a broken spring?
You should not. The door weighs 150 to 400 pounds depending on size. Without the spring counterbalance, it can slam down and cause serious injury. Wait for our tech.
How long does the repair take?
A standard single-spring swap takes 45 to 60 minutes. Both springs and cable check takes 60 to 90 minutes. We are usually in and out before lunch.
Why do springs break?
Cycle fatigue. Each open-close uses one cycle. Standard springs are rated for 10,000 cycles, about 7 to 10 years for typical use. Heavy use, multi-car families, or cold-weather brittleness shortens life.
Can I just install a spring myself?
We strongly recommend against DIY spring work. Torsion springs hold extreme tension and require specific winding bars and technique. Improperly handled, they can cause severe injury or death.
