The short version: in 2026, a basic insulated steel sectional garage door runs $1,200 to $2,000 installed for a single-car opening. A double-car insulated steel door runs $1,800 to $3,200 installed. Carriage-house and wood-look designs run $2,500 to $4,500, and full-view aluminum and glass doors run $3,500 to $6,000 and up. Those prices include the door, new tracks and springs, hardware, and labor. They do not include a new opener. Here is how the number moves inside those ranges, and what a coastal address adds that inland cost guides never mention.
What a New Garage Door Costs Installed
- Single-car insulated steel (8 to 9 ft): $1,200 to $2,000 installed. The workhorse. Most repaint-friendly, most color options, shortest lead times.
- Double-car insulated steel (16 ft): $1,800 to $3,200 installed. Twice the width does not mean twice the price, but heavier doors need heavier springs and sometimes a stronger opener.
- Carriage-house and wood-look steel: $2,500 to $4,500 installed. Steel construction with overlay boards or embossed wood grain. The coastal favorite, because real wood and salt air are a bad marriage.
- Full-view aluminum and glass: $3,500 to $6,000 and up installed. Anodized frames with tempered or insulated glass panels. Popular on St. Simons and Sea Island builds.
Every number above is the installed price. If a quote you are comparing looks $500 cheaper, check whether it includes new tracks, new springs sized to the door, haul-away of the old door, or sales tax. A door-only price is not an installation price.
The Six Things That Move the Price
1. Size. Standard single (8x7, 9x7) and double (16x7) openings price off the shelf. Odd widths, 8-foot-tall openings for lifted trucks, and golf-cart doors are custom orders.
2. Insulation. Non-insulated single-layer doors exist, but on the coast the price gap to a polystyrene or polyurethane insulated door is a few hundred dollars, and the insulated door is quieter, stiffer, and keeps an attached garage livable in August. Most of what we install is R-9 to R-18.
3. Wind-load rating. The big one nobody budgets for. More below.
4. Springs. A new door should always get new springs sized to its exact weight. Reusing old springs on a heavier insulated door is how openers die young. 5. The opener. Not included in the door price. A standard belt-drive LiftMaster runs $450 to $650 installed, and heavy-duty models for double doors run $700 to $1,100. Full details on our garage door opener installation page. If your current opener is under 10 years old and rated for the new door's weight, keep it.
6. Disposal and prep. Hauling the old door, reframing rot at the jambs, and moving photo-eye wiring add labor. Coastal homes with termite or moisture damage at the opening find out at measure time, not on install day. That is what the in-home measure is for.
Wind-Load Ratings: The Coastal Line Item
Inland cost guides skip this entirely. Glynn County and the rest of the Georgia coast sit in a high-wind design zone, and Northeast Florida enforces the Florida Building Code's wind-borne debris rules. A wind-rated door carries heavier gauge steel, more struts, beefier tracks, and engineered end stiles. That typically adds $300 to $800 over the same door in a standard build, and on the Florida side of our service area it is not optional. Two things to know:
- Your homeowner's insurance may discount for a documented wind-rated door. Ask your agent before you buy, not after.
- A garage door is the largest opening in your house. When one fails in a storm, the pressure spike is what takes the roof. This is the last place to save $400.

Repair or Replace?
Not every ugly door is a dead door. A bent panel on a current-production model can often be swapped alone. We wrote up when that works in can you replace just one garage door panel. The general rule: one damaged panel on a door under 10 years old, repair it. Structural rust, cracked stiles, multiple panels, or a discontinued model, put the money toward a new door. Broken springs and worn rollers are standard repairs, not replacement triggers.
How To Get a Real Number
Online ranges get you to the neighborhood. The actual number needs a tape measure on your opening, because headroom, side room, and track radius decide what fits.
